* Cover Crop Champions

Through this endeavor, the HLWD will be providing first-hand information about the effectiveness of cover crops, agronomic and water quality benefits, and technology and equipment availability in southern Minnesota by focusing on the experiences of local experts and watershed landowners. These outreach efforts fit completely within the National Wildlife Federation's Roadmap for Increased Cover Crop Adoption.

This project worked with Jerry and Nancy Ackermann and Jerry and Terry Perkins, HLWD landowners and operators, to promote their involvement with cover crops as a means to distribute conservation technology to other agriculture producers and the community. The ultimate goal is to engage farmers that will implement cover crops for water quality improvement as well as their own farm's sustainability.
